Fighting the common cold the natural way.
Sniffle, sniffle, cough, cough, oh why do we feel so rough?
It’s the season of the common cold, little Isabella has a nasty cough, my nose won’t stop running and Ru feels a little lethargic but the world goes on ~ parties must be had, work must be done and travels won’t wait.
I decided back in October that this winter I was refusing to be sick, I’m sick of being sick frankly so since then I’ve been starting my day with magic medicine consisting of hot water, lemon, honey and ginger.
Why lemon - It’s full of vitamin C which is a powerful immune booster, the perfect go-to remedy for the common cold but it’s benefits don’t stop there. The lemon is also a wonderful stimulant to the liver and dissolves acids and other poisons cleansing your body of impurities. It will also help combat constipation, bloating and nourish the brain and nerve cells. In pregnancy, lemon will help to build the bones of your baby too.
It really is something we should be drinking daily whatever the weather.
Why honey - It’s a soothing and healing agent that goes a long way in boosting immunity and treating the common cold.
Why ginger - Ginger is a another powerful healer with strong anti-inflammatory properties. It helps to warm the body and expel toxins and other harmful invaders of the body.
Simply add a slice of fresh and organic lemon to a large cup of hot water, 1 tsp of honey and peeled ginger to taste.
Extra Power - Drink your cold curing potion while eating a fresh clementine for more vitamin C goodness.
And for children? Well Bella is not going to drink hot water with lemon for a few years yet so what I do to ensure she is getting her vitamins is to soak her porridge oats in a little bit of lemon and apple juice over night then mix with a spoonful of honey and yoghurt in the morning for breakfast and top with chopped clementines.
