From Yoga pants to flatforms: Day 1.
So, it’s been 2 years and 5 months since I left ELLEuk.com to have my beautiful Bella and not only have I been living in a different country whilst trying (very badly) to speak a different language I’ve also embarked on a new career as a Yoga Teacher, all of which has been an insanely magical adventure. However, amidst this dream like scenario there is a little but; I do terribly miss my friends, my people, my London, working in fashion, and photography, I actually miss everything - SO, without further a do I’ve decided to mix it up a little and here I am, freelancing for just over a week at Red magazine.
I’m going to share my daily diary with you guys and hopefully together we can work out some good ways to maintain that holiday-like zen feeling, that is very accessible to me when I am teaching yoga in Spain whilst working in the city, commuting, surrounded by sugar and the temptation to skip my workouts and meditation. A ver! as they say in Spain, lets see.
Day 1. I hardly slept a wink last night due to a mixture of nerves and excitement so I decided to skip morning yoga and opt for a super nourishing 20 minute meditation. Managed to resist the urge for coffee and squeezed some fresh lemons into hot water and washed down my porridge and blueberries. The commute was fine, completely painless except for the fact I was trying to work out how to walk in my new flatforms (calf ache by 9.30am).
On arrival to 72 Broadwick street I bumped into old colleagues and dear friends Sunil and Leo just moments before seeing my very gorgeous and glam ex-boss, Loraine Candy of ELLE who immediately invited me along on the ELLE’s lunchtime run with Reebok. Alas (that is a very sincere alas) I didn’t have trainers but next week I’m there with bells on.
Couldn’t wait to hit my favourite haunt, Whole Foods at lunch and after queuing for 20 minutes (which I did in the zenist of manner despite a lady decked-out in Celine pushing in-front of me) I enjoyed a fabulous energising smoothie and some tofu with veggies. Around 4pm that afternoon snack urge that I so fondly remember came a knocking. Silly old me didn’t have any nibbles to hand and started scouting the office looking for freebies, luckily there was no cupcakes in sight so I had another cup of hot water and lots of filtered and decided to wait for my dinner like a good girl.
By 5.30 my shoulders ached from being hunched up all day and all I wanted to do was go home and crawl into bed - but no, I put my best foot forward and hobbled along to one of my favourite yoga studios in Primrose Hill, Fierce Grace for a hot yoga class to calm the mind, ease the body and hopefully induce great sleep tonight.
And finally after a busy old day I spoke with my daughter on the telephone who is having a whale of a time on her 2nd holiday of the month with her beloved grandad and his many dogs. After she had happily sang ´head shoulders knees and toes´ to me and we’d blown lots of kisses it was on to celebrate my friend´s birthday with red wine, noodles and cheese. I think
i´ll sleep very well tonight. Namaste.
