Have you tried Yoga Nidra yet? Oh my, if you haven´t you really have to
- it is an absolute jewel - think zero effort and 100% results! Sounds good doesn´t it just…
Well, when I say zero effort that would be doing the practice a bit of an injustice; you have to be present, concentrate, lay on the floor, completely relax, close your eyes, sit back and enjoy effortlessly as a voice guides you through a complete relaxation process, I know, you feel sleepy already right?
Imagine one of those times when you are super-stressed, when your mind won´t switch off, you´re making up a hundred narratives in your head - you know what I mean, those little role plays that we all indulge in - for example: when the girl we are jealous of runs away with our boyfriend or we loose our job, our house, our family all in one day and all of our friends are talking about us behind our backs and we are so ugly and really need to buy this and buy that and change this and change that to make us a better version of ourselves… you with me? ABSOLUTE NONSENSE but the mind is nonsensical and without training it will run off to any old place and for some reason the more negative the place the better. The mind loves a bit of negativity give it a negative inch and it will take a depressive, anxiety busting mile.
The absolute wonderful news is ´we are not our minds,´ we are wonderful, kind, sweet, confident and beautiful people and with a little bit of training we can switch off from our mobile minds and relax.
Yoga Nidra brings us home to ourselves, it is a potent meditative resource for healing, empowerment and happiness. It takes us on a journey into a dream like state of consciousness where all the noise of the mind disappears and you re-encounter your essential truth - your absolute perfection.
I was introduced to Yoga Nidra by a wonderful woman and teacher called Uma Dinsmore-Tuli who I know would be smiling from ear-to-ear if she could have seen all the 15 yogis I had at my home after retreat spread out on duvets in their pyjamas trying their best to fight the giggles and enjoy a nighttime yoga nidra session.
The yogis on retreat absolutely loved Yoga Nidra and I just wanted to share my second home with you all so you too can enjoy the benefits. The Yoga Nidra Netowrk is a website full of free resources and downloads http://www.yoganidranetwork.org/, log on today and as Florence said - those doggie days are bloody over. Namaste!
